Lang Cao

Lang  moved to Orlando with his parents when he was only 3 months old. He had lots of energy and was difficult to put to sleep when he was a toddler. We used to hold the two ends of a bed sheet and turn it into a Hammock chair-like swing, put him in it, and sang him some songs when we swung him, hoping to put him to sleep. He started to show his gift in singing then. We were amazed that he could follow us and sing along after he listened to the songs only once.  We tried to find a music teacher for him when he was 3 or 4 years old and were unsuccessful because all private tutors declined to teach such a little kid. We were so lucky to have met the OOYC when he was 9 years old. This year marks his 2nd year at OOYC. Besides OOYC, he has also sung with the Bach Youth Choir since 2023. 

 

He has appeared in several performances:

• The boy soloist at The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, in Concert (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL, August 2024);  

• The Son in The Juniper Tree (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL, May 2024);

•  Concert at Solivita Performing Arts CNCL (Kissimmee, FL, January 2024). He sang Pie Jesu with Kyaunnee Richardson and songs from The Phantom of the Opera with Gabriel Preisser;

•  Boy chorus at The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, in Concert (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL, January 2024);

• In Bach Youth Choir with Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at Home for the Holidays (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL,November 2023)

• One of the church kids in Tosca (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL, October 2023);

• In Bach Youth Choir with Diana Ross at The Residency at Dr. Philips Center (Dr. Philips Center, Orlando, FL, October 2023);

• Festival of Trees ( Orlando Museum of Art， December 2023）

Besides singing, he also shows great interest in STEM subjects. He is a homeschooler so he can learn according to his own pace. He took the SAT last year when he was 10 years old. And was successfully admitted to Valencia College, UCF, and UF as a dual enrollment student. He started his studies in these institutions in January 2024. He was on the President's list and Dean's list at Valencia College in the spring 2024 semester. He was admitted to the Seneff Honors College at Valencia in fall 2024. He takes STEM courses such as computer science, biology,  calculus I & II, and statistics. He is also interested in many other fields so he was also enrolled in such college courses as English writing, psychology, economics, and even acting.

 

He likes coding and making stuff so he joined a robotics team. He's been a member of the FIRST Robotics Team 8057 since 2022. He has also volunteered to teach other kids how to create their own PC games. Lang loves swimming and playing pickleball.
